Monongahela National Forest. Gravel road 150 m from plot. Eastern margin of large Big Run Bog wetland. Upland forest east of plot: Picea, Betula, Tsuga, Acer rubrum. Little disturbance not fragmented.;Early successional after beaver dam break. This community occurs on saturated Sphagnum mats at the wetland margin, behind an old beaver dam. The community is relatively undisturbed. It is almost pure Carex folliculata / Sphagnum with islands of shrubs or Osmunda. Saw-whet owl (?) box next to plot in Picea rubens tree.
Representativeness
This is clearly a defined stand of good size; probably a good representative of this community type.
